An Owego Free Academy graduate and former teacher in Pennsylvania will be honored with a Little Free Library at Hickories Park. Nicole Mathewson – who graduated from OFA in 2000 and was a grade school teacher in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania – will be remembered with a Little Free Library at Hickories Park at a site near the park office. Mathewson was killed during a home invasion in 2014. A 17-year old boy who was charged and tried as an adult pleaded guilty to first degree murder and was sentenced to 54 to 109 years in a Pennsylvania state prison. Friends describe Mathewson as a teacher with a big heart for her students at Brownstown Elementary School. The Little Free Library will be dedicated in memory of one-time Owego resident. Owego does not have a registered Little Free Library, so this facility will bring books to the traveling community who stay at Hickories Park as well as the surrounding communities of Owego and Apalachin. A dedication ceremony is set for 1pm Saturday at the park. Organizer Tessa Pozzi-Morgan was a guest on Wednesday’s WEBO Morning Show. You can listen to the full interview below.
