As local elections will be held today, one of the most highly-anticipated races in the area is the race for Village of Owego mayor. Current mayor Kevin Millar, of the Rebuild Owego Party, is seeking re-election. Millar became village mayor back in 2012, and has overseen much of the recovery process Owego has dealt with since the flooding in 2011. Millar spoke about how his experience with flood recovery will help him if he were elected to another term.
The Rebuild Owego Party’s Phoebe Morris, who is looking to become Village Clerk, has spent the last two years serving as deputy mayor and village trustee. Morris said that her term as trustee has served as a great learning experience, and praised Millar for his leadership in the past two years.
Challenger for mayor, the A Positive Change Party’s Lisa Curatalo, also praised Millar for the work he’s done, but says that changes need to be made.
Voting will take place at the Fire Station on North Avenue in Owego from noon to 9 o’clock.
