A local family is doing all it can to push for stiffer penalties for drivers in drunk driving crashes. Last week, Jaclyn Wesley was sentenced to three to nine years in prison for three counts of vehicular manslaughter, sentences which she will be able to serve at the same time. The family of one of the victims in that crash, Robert Moorehead, is now calling for harsher penalties. The family launched a petition at change dot org, which pushes for the reclassification of vehicular manslaughter to a Class A1 felony when drugs or alcohol are involved. The charge would increase the maximum sentence to 25 years to life in prison, and all sentences would be served consecutively, rather than at the same time.
