A longtime local Bishop passed away yesterday. The Most Rev. James Moynihan served as the ninth bishop of the Syracuse Roman Catholic Diocese from 1995-2009 before he retired at the age of 75. Overall, he served 60 years in the priesthood, leading the Syracuse and Binghamton areas through a difficult round of church consolidations. The Syracuse Diocese includes all the churches and schools in Broome County. Services are scheduled for Thursday and Friday at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in downtown Syracuse.
