The Johnson City Police officer convicted of mail fraud has been sentenced.
Matthew Romano will spend four years in prison and will pay $91,000 in restitution.
In November, Romano was found guilty of using the mail system to file for workers compensation.
He claimed he was entitled to the money because of injuries he said he received after being attacked by two men while patrolling Calvary Cemetery in 2006.
The prosecution argued the wounds were self-inflicted.
Romano was acquitted in a county bench trial in 2008, and a mistrial was declared in federal court in June of last year.
He was then convicted on the charge of mail fraud at a new trial in November.
Romano is required to turn himself in to begin serving his sentence on April 12.
