The man who was charged with murdering an Oneonta woman has been released from jail.
The Otsego County District Attorney requested that the murder charge be dropped against 27-year-old William Sprague after new evidence came to light. The DA’s office has declined to comment on that evidence.
Sprague was charged with murdering 26-year-old Sonya Ridge after the two spent Friday night drinking together. Police had accused Sprague of killing Ridge while he was trying to rape her. The woman died from a head injury.
Police are still investigating.
Sprague was released after a bail hearing.
