An Oneonta man is facing murder charges after an unresponsive woman was found in his home.
27-year-old William Sprague was arrested early Sunday morning after police found the unconscious body of 26-year-old Sonya Ridge inside. The woman was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
Police declined to name details, but they say an autopsy showed that Ridge suffered from bleeding in her brain.
Neighbors say Sprague carried the unconscious woman’s body into his home with another man, who was arrested but later released.
Sprague is in the Otsego County Jail awaiting arraignment.
This is the first reported homicide in Oneonta in five years.
