Bradford County is now home to just the second training facility for natural gas workers in the nation.
Chesapeake Energy unveiled its facility in Athens Thursday. The 3,600-square-foot campus can house up to 250 employees at one time. Each morning, the residents are taken to their drilling rigs – which can be up to 90 minutes away – and they are returned to the facility afterwards, for a hot meal and clean sheets.
Those workers are also trained at the Athens site before going to work on a rig. Chesapeake says the facility is perfect for those workers who are from out-of-town.
The only other facility of its kind was built two years ago in Arkansas.
