New York State enhanced its anti-smoking laws by making it illegal to smoke on the grounds of hospitals and nursing homes. Many hospitals already have posted “smoke-free” areas, but the new law will make it illegal to smoke outside of either type of facility if the smoker is within 15 feet of either building’s property. The state’s Department of Health is expected to notify hospitals and nursing homes of the change.
