NYS Football: 2 Schools from Tioga and 2 from Broome still in quest for state titles

Two teams from Tioga County schools will play Section 3 opponents this weekend in the Central New York regional football playoffs. Tioga, two-time defending Class D champions, go toe-to-toe against Dolgesville at 5pm Friday at Vestal High School. Tigers (11-0) are making Itheir 11th appearance in the state tournament, winning three state titles, including 2022 and 2021.

Waverly (10-1) takes the field at noon Saturday against Adirondack, also at Vestal High School. Wolverines won their second consecutive Section 4 Class B championship last weekend by beating Chenango Forks. Th6s is Waverly’s 5th time in the state championship tournament, advancing as far as the semifinal round in 2011. The winners of Saturday’s games get a ticket for the NY state semi-finals Nov. 23-24. Two teams from Broome County schools are set to play Section 3 opponents this weekend in the Central New York football playoffs. Vestal meets Whitesboro at 8pm Friday at Vestal High School. Golden Bears are a state playoff team for first time since 2018.

The two-time defending NYS Class B champions, Maine-Endwell (10-0), take the field at Vestal High School at 3pm Saturday against Indian River, a Section 3 school in New Philadelphia. Spartans are winners of a state record seven state championships, including a NYS record four consecutive titles in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.  The winners advance to the state semi-finals Nov. 23-24 at Cierio-North Syracuse.
