There are reports of a New York State Trooper killed in a crash in Broome County today. Trooper Christopher Skinner was struck by a truck on Interstate 81 North.
Two other cars were also hit by the truck and as of 1:40 this afternoon a suspect was in custody of police. The accident took place north of Exit 6 on Interstate 81 northbound. The driver of the truck reportedly attempted to flee the scene. Two helicopters responded to the crash. The exit remains closed and there is currently no timetable for when it will be reopened. Skinner was a Binghamton native and is survived by his mother, Sharyn, brother, Shawn, fiancé, Surrena, and two children, 15-year-old Kyle and 12-year-old Erin. He was 42 years old.
