Odessa residents voted down a measure to dissolve Tuesday.
154 people voted against the plan to dissolve the village into the towns of Montour and Catharine. Only 74 people voted in favor of dissolution.
The vote was the culmination of a several-month long debate in the small Schuyler County village. A study found that dissolution would have meant lower taxes for village residents, but at a cost of losing some services. Taxes would have gone up for town residents.
The dissolution issue was put on the ballot after a petition by village residents. Odessa must wait at least four years before voting on dissolution again.
