Over 69,000 pounds of food has been donated to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier’s BackPack program. The food comes as part of a region-wide effort by Wegman’s and Wegman’s patrons. Five Wegman’s stores across the area have been collecting donations out front of their buildings for weeks.
The BackPack program seeks to help students in districts all across our area who might not have adequate food at home. The Food Bank of the Southern Tier says that 1 in 5 children in the Southern Tier are considered “Food insecure.”
