Owego controversy gains national attention

Owego Supervisor Don Castellucci says a controversial inscription on the town’s new 9/11 memorial will not be changed, even though it has been questioned by a local interfaith group. Castellucci appeared on this morning’s “Fox and Friends” program on Fox News to discuss the inscription, which labels the perpetrators of the attacks in 2001 as “Islamic Terrorists.” Castellucci stopped at WEBO yesterday before heading to New York.

Here is what he had to say:

“Apparently the word ‘Islamic Terrorist’ has upset some people. I think it is a historical fact. This is nothing more than a specific event, specific day, specific time, and specific individuals. This is not an indictment of anyone.”

The memorial at Hickories Park will be dedicated in a special ceremony at 8:30am this Sunday, the 15th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 attacks.
