A Democratic Party search committee has recommended Deputy County Executive Patrick Brennan to succeed Barbara Fiala.
The committee will now forward Brennan’s name to the full Broome County Democratic Committee for their consideration.
The Legislature will then appoint a candidate to serve as the Broome County Executive until November, when a special election will take place.
Fiala was named Governor Cuomo’s Director of the Department of Motor Vehicles; she will begin her appointment in April.
Although the Legislature is Republican controlled, by county charter, the interim appointee must come from the same party as the departing executive.
Fiala is a Democrat.
