Local residents had a chance to learn the facts and voice their concerns over a proposed NYSEG pipeline project that runs from Big Flats to Horseheads.
NYSEG says the proposed five mile pipeline would run parallel to a pipeline already in place but the project would require some people to give up a small portion of their land to install the new line. Many people who attended the public meeting are unwilling to give up their land, and say NYSEG has no right to build on their property. NYSEG officials maintain this project will benefit the local community as a whole.
“It will certainly in the long term help stabilize natural gas prices because in addition to providing this additional source of supply from the storage facility, it also will help accommodate local production,” said spokesperson Clayton Ellis.
Some residents who are unhappy with the proposal say they plan to contact state lawmakers about the issue.
