The economy is on its way up in Chemung County, according to a report released this week.
The Southern Tier Economic Growth report is forecasting continued growth in the county thanks to the booming natural gas industry over the border in Pennsylvania’s Bradford County.
The natural gas industry is also bringing more business on the Norfolk-Southern railroad. STEG says drilling has a chance to be a positive impact on the region for at least the next 50 years.
Chemung’s economy is looking strong with the addition of 800 jobs at the Sikorsky plant near the airport, which will also move into a new building next year, and jobs finally starting at the new CVS Distribution Center in the Town of Chemung.
The center has already hired 100 people. Another 500 are expected to be working by the third quarter of next year, shipping items to CVS stores across the northeast.
