Heavy rain Wednesday led to some isolated problems of flooding across the region.
Flash flooding in Ithaca forced city school district officials to close off some parts of the Ithaca High School. A few rooms and halls suffered significant water damage when a storm drain plugged outside the school.
Four homes in the Town of Chemung were voluntarily evacuated after fears that they would be flooded if a beaver dam gave way. The natural dam was holding back more than three feet of water on Mallory Creek. The homeowners returned to their homes last night.
No major flooding damage was reported in Broome or Tioga County, but about 3,000 people lost power after strong winds knocked down trees.
