Schumer Asks For Delay In Fire Hydrant Mandate

New York Senator Charles Schumer is calling for a delay to a sudden mandate that would force municipalities across the state to replace fire hydrants after January 4th. The senator says the Environmental Protection Agency is misinterpreting a 2011 law that was passed, which changed the standards for reduced-lead drinking water. Schumer says Congress did not intend for fire hydrants to be included in the new standards. He says replacing all of the fire hydrants will cost taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.
