Families in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania won a several-year long lawsuit against a major natural gas driller yesterday. Two families will now share a $4.2 Million settlement. The suit began in 2009. Though originally around three dozen families filed claims against Cabot Oil and Gas, only four plaintiffs remained at the end of the trial. Plaintiff Scott Ely was one of those four plaintiffs. He filed claims against the natural gas driller after escaped methane from drilling operations are said to have built up in a neighbor’s well, causing an explosion. A state investigation conducted after the incident suggested that at least 18 wells in the region had been contaminated. Cabot Oil and Gas says that they will continue to fight the jury’s verdict.
