Parents and students are hoping to find a savior for St. Patrick School in Owego. Though it recovered from damage left by both the 2006 and 2011 floods, the private school is now facing closure. In late January, parents received a letter from the parish and St. Patrick’s principal Paula Smith that the school could be facing closure. According to parents, the church can no longer support the school financially. St. Patrick School has been a staple along Owego’s riverfront for more than 156 years. A group of parents have been meeting twice a week and have come up with a business plan to keep the school viable for the next five years. The parents are hoping a local investor will take interest in the school, and quick. If the school raises the $500,000 by March 15, it will also need to enroll 60 students enrolled for grades pre-k through 6th. by April 30 to save the school. For more information on the school or to donate, go to stpatrickowego.org or call Paula Smith at (607) 687-1770.
