The New York State Assembly has approved a minimum wage increase. The plan would pay minimum wage workers $9 an hour. Assembly Speaker, Democrat Sheldon Silver touted the measure Tuesday as a top priority for lawmakers. Silver joined members of the Labor Committee and Assembly Majority in a push for the legislation. The plan also puts indexing on the table…which would tie future increases to inflation. Minimum wage has been held at $7.25 an hour since 2009. Silver did not address how an increase in the minimum wage would affect the cost of doing business. The bill now moves on to the state Senate.
