Leaders at SUNY schools in the Southern Tier say that Chancellor Nancy Zimpher’s annual address was right on the mark. Both BU interim president Peter McGrath and BCC president Kevin Drumm say the address resonated with them on a number of levels, especially the idea of increasing partnerships with the private sector.
Over the last three years, state-funding to SUNY schools has been cut by 30 percent. Business partnerships with private companies not only help prepare students to join the work-force, but also generates much-needed revenue.
During the address, the chancellor pledged to work toward regulatory relief with the state, to make it easier for schools to get involved with the business community.
Zimpher has dubbed 2011, “The Year of Action.”
