The Tioga County Planning Board has approved zoning for two separate solar arrays. One off of Route 96 in Candor, and one on Route 17C in the Town of Tioga.
Renovus Solar is behind the solar array being planned for Route 96 in Candor. Special care is being taken to not disturb surrounding residents. The array will sit on just 35-acres of a 164-acre plot of land. It will stand less than 10 feet tall and have no on-site lighting. The entire operation will also be surrounded by 6-foot tall fencing for the public’s safety.
The Renovus Solar array is expected to save approximately 600 participating Candor residents about 10 percent on their electricity rates.
The other array on Route 17C in Tioga will consist of over 2,200 solar panels, producing 2.8 MegaWatts of electricity for use by Time Warner Cable.
Both solar arrays still need to be approved by local zoning boards before construction can begin.
