The Broome County Sheriffs Office has arrested Brian Keefer, 25, of Newark Valley
He is accused of making a false report involving his vehicle being stolen.
On February 3rd Keefer’s vehicle was discovered burning on Kay Road in the Town of Maine.
Upon being contacted Keefer advised he had left the vehicle at a local bar and had gotten a ride home so he reported the vehicle stolen.
It was determined that the vehicle was involved in an accident being investigated by the New York State Police at Endwell where a snowmobile had been struck and the vehicle fled the scene.
The fire was determined to have been set according to Broome County Fire Investigators.
Through investigation it was determined that Keefer had been operating the vehicle, left the scene of the accident and reported the vehicle stolen.
Keefer could not be linked to starting the fire.
Keefer was charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident, a misdemeanor.
The New York State Police also issued Keefer tickets in relation to leaving the scene of the accident.
