It’s election day across New York State. At the county level on our local ballots, the big contest is for District Attorney where Democrat Fred Luther from Waverly is running against Republican Kirk Martin who is also from Waverly. County Treasurer James McFadden is running unopposed for another term. So is Coroner Neil Lewis.
In Berkshire there are two candidates for Town Clerk. Democrat Constance Liddington is running against Republican Annette Thayer. In Newark Valley, for Town Justice, Democrat Corey Relyea is running against Republican John Schaffer. In Owego, there are four candidates vying for two seats on town council. Democrats Mark Trabucco and Patricia Bence are on the ballot next to Republicans Dean Morgan and Craig Jochum (Yo Come). In Richford, Democrat Beverly Brown and Republicans Roberta Holcomb and Kenneth Miller are town council hopefuls. All other races are uncontested.
There are six statewide propositions to modify the state constitution that are looking for your vote on the backside of the ballot. Proposition Number 1 would allow the legislature to authorize up to seven non-Indian casinos in New York State. Proposition #2 would authorize “additional civil service credit for veterans with disabilities certified POST-appointment”. Proposition 3 excludes “indebtedness contracted for sewage facilities”. Proposition #4 settles “disputed title in the forest preserve”. Proposition #5 has to do with “a land exchange in the state forest preserve with NYCO Minerals, Inc.” Prop 6 increases the age “until which certain state judges can serve.” All six propositions are on the back side of your ballot. Remember to flip it over after selecting your candidates.
