Fire destroyed the Village of Waverly Department of Public Works building last night and heavily damaged some village vehicles. The Waverly-Barton Fire Department responded to reports of fire at the building, at 83 Spring Street in the village, around 10:30 last night. Investigators have ruled that it was started by issues in the electrical system. The building is believed to be a total loss, but a village code enforcement officer is assessing the damage. Inside the building at the time of the fire were three dump trucks , a street sweeper, a heavy duty pickup truck, two lawn tractors , an asphalt roller and several tools. No injuries were reported.
