Flash Floods Caused Significant Damage

Communities across Tioga County are scrambling to recover from damage caused by Sunday’s flash flooding. A state of emergency was lifted yesterday morning. Then, the focus was on repairing infrastructure, as many bridges and roads were heavily damaged. Nearby homes were also hit hard. People hope repairs come before more flooding, as rain continues to fall on the county this week, but clean up will take time. Officials said Tioga County saw close to $500,000 in damages. Cash and resources are limited as many communities are sharing services. Officials and early estimates say it will take up to two weeks to repair the damages. Officials said there isn’t much people can do to prevent flash flooding damage. If possible, raise major appliances to higher floors, rather than the basement, and always keep drains and gutters clear. To help those in need go to redcross.org.
