Former Candor Mayor Eric Halstead has pleaded guilty to stealing funds from the village.
The New York State Comptroller’s Office announced the plea on Friday.
Halstead was accused of withdrawing $23,000 from the village’s bank account between 2017 and May of 2023.
He served as mayor from 2012 until his resignation in July of last year.
The investigation found Halstead took over $23,500 from the village but also intermittently deposited money back into the account over the years totaling over $19,000. As part of the plea, Halstead has repaid the balance of the stolen funds.
Halstead pleaded guilty to grand larceny in the third degree. He is facing 60 days in jailed followed by a three-year conditional discharge and promising to never run for public office again.
