Former Candor mayor sentenced for stealing from village

The former Candor Mayor who pleaded guilty to stealing funds from the village has been sentenced.

According to the New York State Comptroller’s Office, Eric Halstead was sentenced to 60 days in jail for stealing over $23,000 from the Village of Candor from February of 2017 to May of 2023.

Halstead served as mayor from 2012 until his resignation in 2024. He would occasionally put money back into the village’s accounts, totaling over $19,000.

As part of his sentence, he has to repay the rest of the money and is barred from running for public office ever again.
