A Nichols man is facing grand larceny charges after his involvement in what is being described as a work scam. 31-year-old Theodore Cooper is accused of taking thousands of dollars for a paving job without ever completing the work.
According to Broome County sheriff’s deputies, Cooper Paving is accused of taking $6,200 for paving work from a Town of Union resident without the blacktop paving project being completed. The sheriff’s office is warning residents of companies such as Cooper Paving, which perform door-to-door stops offering to provide blacktop services, often doing poor quality work and overcharging customers. Typically these scams are focused on elderly residents. Cooper was sent to the Broome County jail without bail.
