Harris Defense Rests Its Case

The defense rested its case yesterday at 3 p.m. as the third Cal Harris murder trial entered its eleventh week of testimony. After the defense called its thirteenth witness in the afternoon, it said it had no other witnesses or evidence to submit — unless Schoharie County Judge George Bartlett changed his decision regarding third party culpability evidence. Bartlett upheld his prior rulings, leaving the defense with no option but to rest.
The prosecution then began calling rebuttal witnesses. Before jurors were excused for the day, the judge told them they would likely begin deliberating tomorrow or Thursday.
