The jury completed day five of deliberations yesterday in the third Cal Harris murder trial. The jury spent the entire day deliberating. It wasn’t until 4 p.m. that the jury asked to see evidence or a read back of any witness testimony. Jurors asked for the written police statement given by the former Harris nanny Barb Thayer. The judge said since it was never taken into evidence, they couldn’t have it. Jurors could however ask to hear Thayer’s testimony regarding her police statement. Judge George Bartlett set up a tentative schedule for the rest of the week. The jury will be called in at 1:30 p.m. today and will leave at 5 p.m., If deliberations continue, jurors will be called in at 9:15 a.m. Friday and be dismissed at noon. The judge said these adjustments are to accommodate for “juror appointments”.
The jurors have deliberated for approximately 23 hours since last Thursday. They’ve sent 19 notes requesting various evidence exhibits and witness testimony read backs, as well as scheduling questions and recess requests.
