Owego-based attorney Kirk Martin has announced his candidacy to become the new Tioga County District Attorney. He made the announcement last night at the Owego Treadway Inn joined by friends, family and supporters.
The DA’s seat is up for election after former D.A. Gerald Keene was elected as Tioga County Judge. Martin has practiced criminal law for 14 years, and served as assistant district attorney until 2006. As a former Assistant D.A. Martin says he battled meth aggressively, and now other drugs have also become a problem.
Assistant District Attorney Irene Graven has been filling the post since Keene took over as judge in January. It’s not certain whether she will also run for District Attorney.
