The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office has announced an arrest in connection with the fire on Gaskill Road in Owego last week.

According to police, 53-year-old Robert Cook was arrested and charged with second degree arson, second degree assault and criminal mischief.

The Campville Fire Department responded to Gaskill Road just before 7 p.m. on Jan. 16 for a report of a fully involved fire.

Despite intense fire and smoke conditions, firefighters and a sheriff’s deputy rescued three individuals from the structure and moved them to safety.

Several people were treated by EMS on scene with two individuals transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to WBNG-TV, the 911 caller claimed her son, Robert Cook, struck her in the head and was outside when the fire alarm sounded. She suspected Cook had set the house on fire and was threatening to burn it down.

Campville was assisted by firefighters from Apalachin, Newark Valley, Owego, West Corners, South Side and Weltonville along with the Owego, Maine and Candor Emergency Squads.
