On Sunday at 4:40 PM, the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office investigated a three-car motor vehicle accident on State Route 79 in the Town of Richford. A vehicle was travelling east on State Route 79 near Terrell Road when it travelled into the oncoming lane, striking a motorcycle and then a car that were travelling west on the roadway.
The operator of the motorcycle, Robert A. Spaulding, age 77, of Ithaca, was taken to a local hospital where he later died. The driver of the eastbound vehicle, and the driver and one passenger of the other westbound vehicle, were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. No other people or vehicles were involved.
The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Berkshire Fire Department, Richford Fire Department and Maine EMS. The investigation by the Tioga County Sheriff’s Accident Investigation Unit is ongoing at this time.
