For the second time in less than a week, the Newark Valley Fire Department had to respond to a structure fire, and a firefighter has been sent to the hospital.
Fire broke out, this time, at a home on Settle Road.
The call came in just before 6 o’clock this morning. All five people that lived in the residence made it out safely. The fire was under control around 7AM.
A Newark Valley firefighter had to be transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening burns to his hands, he is expected to be ok. Unfortunately, the home is a total loss.
Fire companies from Weltonville, Campville, Union Center, Maine, and Nanticoke assisted at the scene as well as the Tioga County Fire investigation team, and DOT. The Red Cross is providing services for the family.
Tioga County Fire Investigator Frank Okrasinski says the fire started out as a chimney fire, and spread quickly to the rest of the home.
