Tensions were high for three hours last night as New York State Police and Tioga County Sheriff’s Deputies were on the scene of a stand-off in Newark Valley. The call came in around 8:15, at 2980 Wilson Creek Road. One of the homeowners said a personal friend from Candor came over to their house, but when she asked him to leave, he wouldn’t. That’s when the man parked himself, in his car, in the driveway, with a rifle, and threatened to hurt himself. Wilson Creek Road residents were asked to stay in their homes. The man gave up to police around 11:15 after being surrounding for three hours. He was transported to Binghamton General Hospital for a mental health evaluation. The woman and her daughter were able to escape the home safely, and no one was injured. Wilson Creek Road was reopened around 12:30, and had been closed for the duration of the incident.
