Multiple fire crews responded to a horse barn fire in Nichols, NY yesterday afternoon. According to initial reports, the fire started at around 2:40 PM on East River Road. The blaze could be seen from miles away, according to eye-witness accounts, however, no animals were injured in the incident. A small brush fire started on a nearby island in the Susquehanna River, as a result of embers drifting from the horse barn fire by strong winds. Fire crews from Nichols, Tioga Center, South Side, and Owego, as well fire crews from Windham and Athens Pennsylvania were all on-scene battling the blaze. Some units were on scene as late as 9:30 last night.
