The Tioga County Legislative Chair has issued a press release highlighting some historic elections reforms for New York State. Here are just a few of the changes – Effective immediately Primary Elections (except Presidential Primaries) will be held on the fourth Tuesday in June before every general election. So the 2019 Primary Election will be June 25th. Starting with the 2019 General Election, registered voters will be permitted to vote up to ten days prior to any election at designated early voting polling sites. The Tioga County early voting site has not yet been determined. Effective January 1st, 2020 people as young as 16-years-old may pre-register to vote and be automatically registered upon reaching the age of 18. Additionally, beginning March 25, if a resident of New York State who is registered to vote moves anywhere else in the state, they will no longer have to re-register to vote. Their registration and party affiliation will remain intact and be transferred by their previous board of elections to the board of elections in the county of their new residence.
