Owego-Apalachin School District residents will be asked to vote on a budget proposal for next school year that contains a property tax levy increase of less than 1 percent. The budget proposal adopted by the school board includes a total tax levy increase of 0.90 percent. Individual tax rates will vary by town and property assessment.
The final budget proposal put together by retiring Superintendent Dr. Bill Russell aimed to start rebuilding programs and services for students after a few years of economy-related cuts. To that end, the budget proposal includes the addition of three teachers and a guidance counselor at Owego Free Academy, a math teacher at Owego-Apalachin Middle School, and a teacher at Apalachin Elementary. The particulars of the budget are available on the district website at www.oacsd.org. Budget Vote Day is May 17.
