On Monday, November 11th, at 11 a.m., VFW Post 1371 in Owego will host a special Veterans Day event, inviting veterans from all wars to come together and share their stories.
This year, we particularly encourage veterans from Modern Warfare, including the Persian Gulf, Iraq, and Afghanistan, to speak out and share their experiences — especially those stories that have remained unheard.
Storytelling is a powerful tool for healing, education, and remembrance, reinforcing the value of veterans’ experiences in society. These narratives can educate younger generations about the realities of service, promoting empathy and respect.
In a show of solidarity and remembrance, we are asking local churches to ring their bells at 11 a.m., and fire sirens to sound in honor of those who have served. This moment will allow our community to unite in gratitude and reflection for the sacrifices made by our veterans.
Veterans Day marks the 16th Anniversary of NYS Route 38 – The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway of Valor.
All are welcome to attend or listen on WEBO and the My Hometown Today app to this meaningful gathering. Lunch afterward downstairs. Let us honor our heroes and ensure their stories are shared and remembered.
