Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, observed on Saturday, December 7, is a solemn occasion to honor and reflect on the sacrifices made by those who served during World War II.

The VFW in Owego will be holding a special remembrance event to pay tribute to Seaman First Class Delmar Dale Sibley, Owego’s first World War II casualty, who has been entombed on the battleship USS Arizona since December 7, 1941.

This poignant ceremony will also recognize the memory of four other Tioga County soldiers who are now deceased: Army Technical Sergeant Donald Stocks, Marine Lester Dunham, Army Sergeant Richard Hopkins, and Air Force Staff Sergeant Bill Kennedy.

The community is invited to gather in the VFW dining room to honor these brave men and reflect on the sacrifices they made in service to their country. This event serves as an opportunity to ensure that their contributions and memory are never forgotten and that their legacy continues to inspire future generations.

All are welcome to attend and participate in this meaningful tribute.
