An anonymous donor helps the town of Owego make improvements at Hickories Park. The town received a $100,000 donation for the work, with no name attached. The donation makes it possible for the town to extend the sewer system to more campsites and allow campers to hook up. The entire sewer project will cost $163,000 and the town will pick up the remaining costs.
Another project will replace the temporary bridge at the entrance of the park. That project will be covered by the federal emergency management agency. The town was expecting the project to cost more than $600,000, but accepted a bid for just $501,000. The park will close on September 9th, and will remain closed until next spring in order to complete the improvements.
