It’s now being reported that the layoffs coming to Asteelflash in Owego will effectively close the entire plant. The international electronic manufacturing services company will be laying off 34 employees at its location off Route 38 just north of the Village of Owego. With those layoffs, officials for Asteelflash say the 150,000-square-foot facility will be closed. The company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice with the Department of Labor, saying that the reason for the layoffs is economic. The cuts are scheduled to take place on June 27th. According to officials, of the 34 employees, 16 are Tioga County residents. Asteelflash acquired Catalyst Manufacturing Services at the same location back in early 2012, and at that time employed approximately 150 workers at the Owego plant.
