It’s been a busy week for crime fighters in Tioga County, after a meth lab bust on Tuesday, and a CVS Pharmacy robbery on Wednesday.
Now, local law enforcement officials are adding a third high profile case, to what’s seemingly been a week of early Spring cleaning in Tioga County. The New York State Police are just now releasing details of a robbery at the Best Buy Distribution Center in Nichols that occurred Sunday night. Investigators say that $118,000 worth of electronics were taken from trailers in the Best Buy parking lot in the late night hours of Sunday into Monday morning.
A 911 call reported a suspicious van in the parking lot, and when patrol arrived moments later they observed the van traveling slowly on Berry Road behind the warehouse. When Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, it took off, stopping a short distance later. The driver fled on foot into a wooded area.
A large quantity of electronics including laptops and camcorders were recovered from inside the van. Another large quantity of electronics were located next to the roadway behind the warehouse. A search commenced including air support from the New York State Police helicopter and a K-9 from the Owego Police Department.
A tip led to the arrest of two suspects at the Lounsberry Truck Stop in Nichols around 7 AM Monday. Two other suspects were taken into custody later in the day at the Bus Station in Binghamton. It was determined that the four men traveled from Chicago, specifically to rob Best Buy.
All four men were charged with Felony Grand Larceny in the 2nd Degree in Nichols Town Court, and remanded to the Tioga County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the investigation.
