Village elections were held on Tuesday, and Owego will have a new Mayor. Moving Owego Forward Party candidate Mike Baratta defeated incumbent Steve May by only 9 votes. 578 ballots were cast. 264 went to Baratta, 255 to May, and People’s Voice candidate Tim Taft, a college Senior, trailed with 52 votes.

In the 1st Ward Incumbent Ed Morton defeated Theresa Gosart by a mere 8 votes. 2nd Ward Incumbent Earl Hartman lost his seat to Charles Plater by 27 votes.

And in the 3rd Ward, it’s a dead heat where incumbent Michael Phelps is tied with Fran VanHousen at 286 votes each.

Incumbent Clerk-Treasurer Rodney Marchewka ran unopposed on the ballot, but held off a last minute write-in campaign against Dale Williams that earned 202 votes to Marchewka’s 279.

Village Justice Dave Boland ran unopposed.

In the village of Waverly, three trustee seats were up for re-election. All three candidates ran unopposed.
