Grant Application to Consolidate OPD submitted

The grant application needed for the dissolution of the Owego Police Department has been submitted to the state. The Village of Owego has confirmed that the grant application was submitted on Friday. The application needed to be filed by July 12th to the New York Department of State. The application will now be reviewed by the Department of State for consideration.

 

If the application is denied, the grant, which would cover the initial costs of the dissolution, would not be awarded to the Village of Owego.

 

If the grant is approved by the state, the consolidation of the OPD would still need to get the approval of the Owego Police Benevolent Association, Tioga County Sheriff’s Office, and the public through a referendum vote.
