Lockheed Martin in Owego will be delivering a new helicopter to the U.S. Navy today.
At 11 o’clock, the 150th fully missionized MH-60R Multimission Helicopter will be presented to the Navy, as well as the first automatic radar periscope detection and discrimination system, and the 400th common cockpit, scheduled to be installed in another helicopter later this year.
The MH-60R, nicknamed “Seahawk”, is the Navy’s newest and most advanced helicopter.
Congressman Tom Reed will be making his first trip to the Owego Lockheed Martin site, since his election in November, to be a part of today’s ceremony.
An aircrew from the Seahawks of the Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 41, the first group in the military dedicated to training new MH-60R pilots and crewmen, will fly the aircraft from Owego to its new home at Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego, California.
