Forty employees of Lockheed Martin’s janitorial and cafeteria operations were notified on Tuesday that they will be laid off in July. The employees are set to work their final shift on July 18th. According to company officials, the janitorial and cafeteria operations at Owego’s Lockheed site will be transitioning to vended services beginning July 21st. The employees being laid off will have the opportunity to interview for positions with the vendors. Similar transitions have taken place at other Lockheed Martin locations in the past, and a large number of laid off employees have been offered and accepted positions with the vendors, according to company representatives. The Owego plant currently employs about 2,600 workers.
